Attraction - Cycling routes
Cycling routes in the Kruklanki commune are a real treat for lovers of two wheels, nature, and Masurian landscapes. The commune offers as many as seven marked routes of varying length and difficulty, as well as several thematic regional trails that run through forests, lakes, and historic corners of the region. Interestingly, all these routes form loops, which makes returning to your accommodation much easier.
Using the Download track (GPX) button, you can download a .gpx file with the route track, which can be opened in most navigation apps. It will help you follow this route or plan your own based on it.
Communal cycling routes
- Black route - A route 37.5 km long (loop). It runs right by our cottages. It leads through Zywki, to Lake Zywy, through the village of Lipowo, the Bison Enclosure, the village of Mozdzany, to Lake Goldapiwo, Kruklanki, and back to Zywki.
- Blue route - The route is 16 km long (loop) and runs around Lake Goldapiwo through Kruklanki, Jeziorowskie, and Przerwanki. On the route you can see the lock in Przerwanki and admire the beautiful landscapes of Lake Goldapiwo and the Masurian countryside.
- Orange route - The route is 23 km long (loop) and leads from Kruklanki along Lake Kruklin through the village of the same name, then turns back through the village of Pieczarki to Kruklanki, circling the lake. It runs through the Gizycko Region of Masurian Fortifications, and along the route you can see many bunkers and defensive structures from World War II.
- Yellow route - Length 35 km (loop). The route leads from Brozowka along Lake Goldapiwo, and then to Kuty. From there through the Pilackie Hills Reserve to the village of Grodzisko, where you can see remains of an early medieval stronghold linked to Yotvingian settlement, and then through Borecka Forest back to Lake Goldapiwo.
- Green route - A route 44 km long (loop). It leads from Kruklanki through Zywki, by Lakes Soltmany and Gawlik, and then to the Bison Enclosure and through Borecka Forest to Lake Goldapiwo and Kruklanki. Along the route you can see many Masurian lakes and also visit the Bison Enclosure.
- Red route - The route is 54 km long (loop). It leads through Kruklanki, by Lake Goldapiwo, through Borecka Forest and the Borki reserve. Then by Lakes Pilwag and Litygajno to Gajrowskie, and then toward the Bison Enclosure through areas where bison live in the wild, and back to Kruklanki.
- Brown route - The route is 33 km long (loop). It leads through Kruklanki, Przerwanki, Pozezdrze, to Lake Dargin, Pieczarki, and Spytkowo, passing by the Indian Museum. By making a small detour from the route, you can also see the Blown-up Railway Bridge in Kruklanki, Himmler's Headquarters in Pozezdrze, or the lock in Przerwanki.
Regional cycling routes
- Masurian Legends Trail - The route is inspired by Masurian legends, recorded, among others, by Jadwiga Tressenberg in the book "Masurian Stories". The route is 100 km long and is marked in the field with square signs saying LEGENDS and a green color indicating direction. At 27 stop points there is brief information about a legend connected with that place, a map with the stop marked, and impressive wooden sculptures created during four sculpture plein-air events in Kruklanki by Lake Goldopiwo. The trail runs along the road where our cottages are located.
- Blue Ribbon of Lakes - A scenic route around Masurian lakes, 79 km long (loop), with numerous viewpoints. The trail connects Gizycko, Sztynort, Pozezdrze, and Kruklanki. The trip is also an opportunity to delve into the region's history, including military history. Riding this trail, you can see over 15 Masurian lakes and many monuments.
- Masurian Cycling Loop - lets you explore Masuria along a designated and unified route. It is almost 310 km of varied terrain. So every cyclist will find something for themselves - family tourists, MTB enthusiasts, or bikepackers. The MCL includes gravel routes, separated asphalt sections, urban roads, as well as field and sandy paths. Along the entire route there are 18 Cyclist Service Points equipped with rest infrastructure - shelters, bike racks, toilets, and power access. There are also 9 observation towers offering views from a perspective higher than the saddle.
